On March 24, 2026, our official group journey came to a successful close as I saw the Schreiner University Presidential Delegation off at the airport. While their departure marked the formal conclusion of our intensive eight day tour, it was also the beginning of a final, deeply personal mission for me. I traveled to the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary (PUTS), the cradle of Korean Presbyterian theology and my beloved alma mater.
Returning to the campus after 20 years was a moment of profound emotion. I had the honor of meeting with President Dr. Kyungsu Park, who was once my professor and mentor. As we talked, we discovered a remarkable and unintentional alignment in our academic paths. We share common roots at Seoul National University and PUTS, followed by our studies at PCUSA seminaries such as Princeton and San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS), and ultimately our doctoral work at Claremont. This shared journey, though unplanned, felt like a providential connection that allowed me to understand and respect President Park on a much deeper level.
We discussed the future of theological education and reached an agreement to establish a strategic partnership between our institutions. President Park expressed strong support for an MOU, and we have already begun follow up discussions to finalize this agreement online in the near future. This meeting served as the perfect final achievement, weaving together my personal history with the global future of Schreiner University.
Reflecting on this entire journey across South Korea, from our productive meetings at Soongsil University, Keimyung University, Hannam University, and Seoul Women’s University, I witnessed firsthand the dynamic changes happening in the landscape of higher education. All of these institutions are actively transforming their academic structures by placing Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the core of their curricula. This forward looking approach, which boldly fuses technology with the humanities and faith, aligns perfectly with the vision of Schreiner University.
In this new era defined by rapid technological shifts, reflecting on how faith and technology can harmonize is no longer an option but a necessity. Based on the profound insights gained from these four prestigious partners and my alma mater, President Dr. Charlie McCormick and our entire delegation are dedicated to ensuring our students grow into global leaders. We will empower them to possess both modern technological competencies and an enduring Christian character to lead in an increasingly interconnected world.
This trip was not merely the conclusion of a planning process. It truly marks the beginning of new, dynamic relationships and a shared vision for the future of global education.
